Washington, D.C. - Why You Don't Need a Big House

   Last year, while in Nagoya, Japan,  I had a conversation with a friend that struck a chord.  He was originally from New Zealand and came to Japan 25 years ago. He created a very successful business selling used Japanese cars around the world.  He sold it to Honda for a tidy fortune and retired a few years ago in his early 40's to a gentile life.  Originally he and his wife had homes around the world.  But over the last couple of years he sold them (except his condo in Nagoya), preferring to travel internationally and stay at Airbnb's.  Less hassle and more flexibility to live in luxury anywhere in the world for a while.  Made sense to me.  The recent Thanksgiving gathering of some of my clan made a compelling case follow suit. That is, keep my tiny Fort Worth abode as a launching point and rent a big home to bring everyone together at a location more amenable for everyone.  In this case, a beautiful home in Falls Church, Virginia with bedrooms for all, a giant gourmet kitche
