Boom Aerospace is the quintessential American dream story.  Great ideas, engineers, and entrepreneurs.  It was so neat to visit and learn about how this team made history.

And with my dear friend Dave we got to hike in the mountains.  We were going to go skiing, but climate change is real...

SFTE President Visits Boom Supersonic to Present JSM Award

SFTE President Jeff Canclini visited Boom Supersonic headquarters in Centennial, Colorado, where he presented the James S. McDonnell Team Award to the XB-1 flight test team in recognition of their outstanding achievement in flight test engineering.



The visit included a discussion with Boom Founder and CEO Blake Scholl, who shared the story behind Boom’s founding and the vision driving the development of next-generation supersonic transport.

During the visit, XB-1 Test Director and current Head of Engine Programs Nick Sheryka provided a tour of the XB-1 demonstrator aircraft, offering insight into the engineering and flight-test effort supporting Boom’s supersonic program.

 
The trip concluded with an SFTE Rocky Mountain Chapter social, hosted by Chapter President Eric D’Anna, bringing together local members and flight-test professionals for an evening of discussion and networking.

The visit highlighted the strong connection between SFTE and organizations advancing modern flight-test innovation, and the vital role of the flight-test engineering community in enabling the next generation of aerospace systems.

Prague, Italy, & California - Past, Present and Our AI Future

A whirlwind trip across countries and continents.  New adventures, friends, and technologies, juxtaposed with glimpses of the 1930s, offer a cautionary tale about Europe’s future.   And through it all, I am pondering the questions: Who am I? What is my deepest desire?  Heading to Europe to attend the SFTE symposium in Prague, I visited Italy first.  My plan was to stay again in Venegono at La ManSardina with the hope of recreating my November experiences.  But as it was a long weekend to celebrate Italy’s Independence, I learned too late that my friends had made other plans.  I was disappointed. West Coast Tour to Assume the Presidency

  This trip was a logistics marvel.  Fly into San Diego for 4 days to visit family and meet my newest grandchild of 4 months. What an amazing young bambino! My 7th nipote!   Fly to Sacramento to visit my brother and sister in the Sierra foothills and see a different way to retire on 25 acres. Scenic and peaceful, but not for me.   I visited my father and mother's grave for the first time. Gravestone already showing signs of aging. Little weird to think there bodies are in a box below decaying.  Meaningless, meaningless.  All we are is dust in the wind.  Drive to my alma mater, Univ of California, Davis to give a talk about SFTE to a dozen graduate students and faculty in the Department of Aeronautics.  My old grad school professors, Prof. Karnopp, and Prof Margolis were still there in the same offices!  90+ and still doing bond graphs!  Many others had died, some with their names on a building.  The new professors were young!...
